Atletico Madrid coach, Quique Sanchez Flores, has admitted that the club has had a difficult 2010/11 campaign. He was pleased with the team’s overall effort but believed that had the team put in more effort into their strides, it could have entirely been
different.
The Madrid-based club is all set to part ways with the 46-year-old and Sanchez has clearly accepted the decision saying that there is no one to be blamed other than him. He was also apologetic towards the fans and wished them all the best for the upcoming
2011/12 season.
Los Rojiblancos officials mentioned that Flores was asked to guide the team back into the UEFA Champions League but could not deliver. The club also had to face an early exit from the Europa League which did not help the manager’s fortunes.
The Spanish mentioned, "We knew that it was difficult, but we had a good game to complete the season. We also finished close to our objective of getting into the Champions League places. We're aware that it has been a tough season.”
He also reflected on Atletico Madrid’s last year campaign and was delighted to have at least won a UEFA Europa League with the club. Atletico defeated Fulham in the final of the competition but they have failed to impress ever since.

We appreciate what we've achieved. There were times during the season when we were six to eight points
off the Europa League places. We've managed to get into this competition and we need to appreciate that."
Atletico have finished their campaign seventh on the table with 58 points and were on level terms with sixth placed Athletic Bilbao. They could not qualify for the Europa League only because of an inferior goal difference.
A decision regarding Sanchez’s replacement will be made in a few days time, as the club looks to claw back to Champions League football.
