I got admissions in a University in Baltimore. I have got cousins who are there in Boston. So i am planning to go in early June to USA so i will get good time to see a place and get settled up. So am i allowed to go, or are there any restrictions that i need to go only 1 month prior the date mentioned in my I-20.

  1. Yes there are restrictions.

The earliest date you can enter the U.S. is 30 days prior to the report date stated on your I-20 and not one day earlier.

You will also find that you will need every day of the 30 day to get yourself settled and to get everything you need sorted out from finding an apartment, getting renters insurance, opening a bank account - none of this is easy without a SSN. So all of this will take time. So plan accordingly.

You will also need to had down to your university, take any test which need to be done, attend orientation, enrol for your classes and pay your tutition.

On top of this you will need time to find and buy items for your apartment, food shopping, and purchasing school supplies such as text books, note books and pens etc.

Good luck and enjoy your stay in the States.
