I just moved into a new apartment and need to update my dryer from 3 prong to 4 to get it plugged into the outlet. The cord I bought is color coded, but the inside of the dryer and the old plug are not.

I was told the left and right on the dryer are "hot" and the middle is neutral, but what colors are hot and what color is neutral? (The plug I have has black, white, red, and green)

  1. Green is ground, it goes to the case of the unit.

White is neutral, it goes in the center connection, remove any jumper to the case.

Black and red are the line or hot leads, they go on the 2 outside connections, one on each. side does not matter.

  2. Black is hot

    Red is Hot

    White goes to neutral

Green goes to the frame of the dryer.
