Question:

Attacking gerbil..Help!!?

I have a gerbil and whenever I put my hand in her cage she charges at me and I bites me and I start bleeding really bad...This happens too when I put my hand up to her cage on the outside...but when I take her out of her cage she is fine....Why is she like this and how can I stop it???

  1. she probably doen't want your hand in her cage.  she needs space. or she thinks you have food!! :)


  2. She is probably territorial of her space. See when you put your hand in her cage, you are in her territory, but when you take her out, she can't really bight you.

  3. Unfortunately, it's hard to stop it. She's just cage territorial. It happens, and it's not out of the ordinary. She's just protective of her territory, and you should respect it. Just don't put your hand in her cage, and she'll be fine. Lucky for me, my gerbils aren't like that.

    Whenever you need to take her out of her cage, try getting a mug or cup to scoop her into, and take her out that way. If you do it that way, you won't get bitten and she won't feel as threatened.

    Just because she bites when she's in her cage doesn't mean she's a bad pet. I would recommend you just respect her space and scoop her into a cup when you want to take her out.
