Attacking strategies in volleyball
Volleyball is not as simple as it seems as the game has many aspects to it. It is not just about making the ball go to the other side of the net in order to make an attempt for it to touch that side of court. It is also not only about saving the ball from
hitting one’s own side of the court. There are many intricacies involved in the game which has evolved to include various skills, techniques as well as strategies.
The following quote by Misty May-Treanor explains the need to develop skills in order to be good at playing volleyball, "It takes a lot of hard work and dedication just like any pro sport. Especially for beach volleyball you don’t have to be tall or as fast
as other sports. You just have to have the skills."
As volleyball is played internationally at a professional level, it requires more effort to be put in by people who want to become players. The training for the game starts at an early level where a player is honed and made to learn different skill sets.
After the skill sets have been mastered, there are different techniques that can be made use of in order to improve on the basic skills. Once the skills and the techniques are learned, the players must work upon effective volleyball strategies. Strategies
help volleyball players to play more effectively as well as have a better coordination with their team members.
These strategies can cover any aspect of the game. For instance, a volleyball strategy might deal with attacking, setting or serving etcetera. If a player wants to work on attacking strategies in volleyball, the following points would help a great deal.
In case a volleyball player wants to make a hit on the ball in such a way that it moves into the opponent’s side of the court with a lot of force, he or she needs to use this strategy to make an explosive hit.
As a player approaches towards the ball, the first two steps should be light but quick. In case the player is a righty, then the first step should be with the right foot and vice versa. The third step with the right foot should be taken with force after
which a quick left step should be taken. The last stage of the process is when the player lifts off from the ground. This too should be done quickly and with force.
If the above mentioned process is followed by volleyball players who want to make a hit on the ball, they will find that they have more time to adjust the steps during the approach. Not only that, a player is able to jump higher than usually if this strategy
is adopted. The other advantage of making use of this strategy is to create confusion in the blockers of the opposing team. A hitter will also be able to choose whether to make a swing on the ball or make a hit as he or she approaches it. This will create
further confusion in the players of the opposing team.
If the above mentioned strategy is adopted by players in order to make a hit on the ball, teams will find that they are more effectively scoring points through their attacking side.
