Question:

Attending college in Europe?

I'm thinking about attending a four year college in Europe rather than in the United States, seeing as how for the most part there is no tuition fee, (France and Norway comes to mind off hand). (This is as opposed to doing a study abroad program.)

Putting language aside, how would I go about doing this? Simply applying there, and if accepted get rooming (on-campus or off-campus) set up?

  1. Yeah I don't know anything about France but I know you can get your masters or PHD in Norway for free - (somebody else provided a good link)  but I'd warn you that other places, like the UK & Ireland have raised their international student fees significantly because it's the only place they can get money since they aren't allowed to raise their fees for citizens.  Norway is free to study but cost of living is high just so you know.

I went to college in Ireland a few years ago before they started hiking up the fees like crazy.  It costs some 10 times more now than it did when I went and it wasn't so long ago.  I was looking at doing a masters in Scotland because they have a new scheme to allow people who study there to get work visas for when they finish, and they allow you to work 20 hours a week legally while studying - but the tuition is every bit as high as a US college for non-EU nationals.

I got into my college in Ireland just by getting in touch with the college itself.  Their guidance counselors helped me apply & when I got there they gave me a list of people with rooms for rent, basically, because they didn't have any housing schemes.  Norway has a really good student infrastructure so you can count on getting nice student accommodation if you go there.

  4. I am studying in Hungary at the mo i know there are fees here but the way  to go about studying in europe is like trying to get into most colleges search the course you would most like to do in europe see what unis provide it the big ones generally have full english courses for international students, there will be contact numbers they usually help, brilliant if you ring them up and enquire about the course they generally send you info then just research which courses are best suited to you, apply try to get accepted, for international courses they generally interview you in the embassy from that country in your country there might be an exam, and there are also repersentatives in your country they put you in touch with, rooming is generally not too hard to find they give alot of help with it like on campus accomadation or renting an apartment, seriously think hard about going to europe to study its a preety big decsion collect the info then make your choice by the way party life is fcking crazy out here, good luck
