I have enrolled in the Powerscore LSAT course. So far so good. The next LSAT test is in October and again in December. Will it hurt my chances of starting law school in the fall of 09 if I take the December test?

  1. Most law schools use rolling admissions so technically the later you apply the fewer seats that are available (and there are more applicants for those slots as well). However, there are two things that mitigate that circumstance:

    1. If taking the LSAT later gets you a higher score, then it is worth waiting until December. Applying early with a low score is never worth it if you can wait until December and do better. Literally, if you aren't ready for the LSAT in October, don't take it.

    2. If you really have a good application, you will get in, regardless of whether you take the October or December test. Part of that depends on the school of course, but if you have the numbers for the school, usually that wins out.

So, overall, the later application is a slight negative, but a higher LSAT score would be a positive.

Note that the above only applies for October testers postponing into December. A December person who postpones into February is in an entirely different position because so many schools won't accept February scores.

    Does that make sense?
