Question:

Attention all Vegetarians! I'm a new Veg, and i need some advice!?

I decided to become a vegetarian last night. I did it primarily because I wanted to lose weight. After doing research I found many benefits to vegetarianism, so I became more confident in my decision.

The problem is that my familiy criticizes me for my decision, they call me stupid, impressionist, immature, a lunatic, and all sorts of things. My family eats out at least three times a week, and when we eat at home, there is always meat involved. I want to show my family the benefits of this lifestyle and hopefully get them off my butt.

What I've really wanted to know is what can I really expect from becoming a veg.

-Will I lose weight, get more energy, get clearer skin, and feel better about myself??

Thanks :)

  1. If you are only  becoming a vegetarian to lose weight, then it might be difficult to convince your family that it is nothing more than a "just another weight loss plan" that you will eventually grow bored with. If you are doing it as a part of a lifestyle change because you want to improve your health,or want to stand behind a moral issue you believe in, then you might get more support from them. The longer you stick to your decision and the more they can see that you are serious about your choices, then the more accepting they will become and thus more supportive. I would suggest you do research into how to eat properly so you are getting enough protein and iron in your diet, especially if you are a young woman. I have attached some websites you might find useful, and the libraries and bookstores have tons of information to help you. Good Luck!

  2. I been a vegetarian for exactly 4 weeks. My family made fun of me, I've stuck to it, and they don't say anything rude anymore. For me, I really didn't want to eat meat anymore, then on about my 2nd week I had a HUGE craving for meat. The 3rd week I forgot what meat tastes like! When they eat meat, just replace it with fake meat. I love the Trader Joe's mock meats. I would stay away from 'Smart Dogs'. I tried them the other night and they were SO gross. Soy meat tastes different from animal meat, but it will taste good when you eat it with other things at the same time. Make sure you get enough protein everyday. When you eat out, just get something new without meat, a salad, pasta, and you know some restuarants have vegetarian meals. As long as you get enough protein, iron, etc. you will have a lot of energy. I really haven't seen a change in my skin, and you will feel excellent. As far as the weight lose a lot fo vegetarians are skinny. But I am a vegetarian who needed to gain weight so I have a lot of startch and have gained weight. Good luck, hope I helped! Btw, all of my family has noticed since I've become veg I eat healthier.

  3. its easy 2 find immitation food. if yor family is having hamburgers u can hav a veggie burger its really not hard

  4. Losing weight, having energy, and getting clearer skin as a vegetarian depends on the kind of diet you adopt. Some people start eating very nutritious foods in the place of meat, but some people revert to junk food. When I became a vegetarian (almost 2 years ago), I initially lost about 5 pounds, but it eventually came back. You need to eat foods that can sustain you, not just junk, or you'll feel lazy.

    Good luck!
