Question:

Attention all new freshmen in high school!?

I'm a peer counselor at my school and we are supposed to teach 3 days of classes with freshman dealing with similarities, teamwork, and resources. Everything is planned out, but then we have to answer questions. I'm a junior, but i want to know what kinds of questions freshmen will have about the high school (in case they are too shy to ask themselves)

Also how can i let them know that they can talk to me about things and be comfortable around me

and how can i get them to pay attention to what i'm saying?

I know, lots of questions, but they're important!

  1. Well, I'll be a senior but make sure you dress nice and not all crazy because they will be more scared to ask you stuff.

  2. lol. like my question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

I guess some people would ask about hazing and freshman friday.

or the transition from Middle school to high school.

or how many credits u need to graduate

  3. I'm a link leader at my school and we also have to help freshman out for a day.

From what I understand and from what they have asked me, the freshman I lead are very scared for high school. They don't know what is going on or what to expect! So you might want to just give them a run down of high school, even though they might not ask.

None of them really think that they are going to be thrown into trashcans, but it is always a good idea to tell them they won't anyway because they will ask.

To get freshman comfortable, our high school actually has us play games with them! Get them to be silly! Shy away from name games though, they get reserved and won't talk during those.

They also tell us to identify with them! Ask them where they went to middle school and then be like 'oh I went to that one too' or 'I like snowboarding too!' Stuff like that. They will feel more comfortable once they get to know you.

To get them to pay attention, be firm. You cannot for one moment be nervous or look flustered or they will not pay attention to you anymore.

I hope this helps and good luck!

  4. Go back to your freshman year. What did you feel? What did you ask? Make sure you tell them an embarrassing moment of yours to get their attention.

  5. well, i don't know exactly what you'll be talking about, but i'd most likely ask about some specific guidelines and tips to stay ahead so i don't fall behind early on.

as far as giving the presentation (or class. whatever), make sure you don't teach down to the freshmen. nothing sucks more than a "ha! i'm better than you" attitude. don't try to hard to be friendly, either. you may end up appearing like those teachers who pretend to be "hip".

    hope i helped- good luck!
