Due to improved training, todays athletes are bigger, stronger and faster than ever before. Todays linebackers run faster than almost every wide reciever from the 70s. Sprinters run faster than ever before. Swimming records are broken left and right. But, the hardest throwing pitchers in baseball in the 50s threw 98mph fastballs. The hardest throwing pitchers today throw 98mph fastballs. Why hasn't that improved more with time like everything else? Why aren't they throwing 105mph fastballs?

  1. There are some that break 100, and there are more in the majors now than ever befreo. But I get your point.

The main reason is because hte throwing motion is unatural fundamentally. It is hard on the body and arm and shoulder, as well as the back. Kids are throwing more junk at an earlier age than years ago, thus weaking their potiential. Warmup routines are good, but many highschools and colleges do not enforce them as well as running after starts, befor estarts etc.

Te main reason that I see is that the ligaments are what they are at birth, and cannot really be stregnthened the smae way a running or hitting muscle can. There is growth in that category as gentics seems to get better with each generation producing ballplayers that play ball. But it may be capping out faster than the other skills.
