The Novara head coach stressed on his resolve to see his side through these trying times, and has aimed for the unlikely possibility of staying in the Serie A.
The Italian is in his second stint as the Novara head coach having been sacked by the club’s President midway through the season.
The decision was considered excessive by many people, as Attilio Tesser managed to guide Novara to their first Serie A promotion in 55 years. He was replaced by Emiliano Mondonico, who
could not salvage Novara from their mid-table status, pushing the club into the relegation zone in the process.
After considering the error of his ways, Biancoazzurri Chairman, Massimo De Salvo, reinstated Tesser in a desperate bid to stay in the Serie A.
Ironically, Tesser was awarded the Serie B coach of the year after his dismissal. Upon his return to Stadio Silvio Piola, the 53-year-old managed a miraculous victory, winning 1-0
against high-flying Udinese.
Tesser’s side are in preparation to compete against Giuseppe Sannino’s Siena in matchday 28 of the Serie A. The former Ascoli manager mentioned that he wants momentum to build until
the end of the season to salvage their relegation concerns.
During his interview on Friday, the Italian spoke on how he felt the team should approach the match, commenting:
“It’s not a matter of tactics, but how the team takes to the field. If we are aggressive and focused, we can do well.”
Upon his return, the tactician mentioned that the remaining fixtures would be like finals for them, and they need to give their all in these matches, further remarking:
“We had talked about the run-in being 12 finals - we won the first one and now another one comes against a Siena side in excellent form. However, we only have to look after ourselves
and then we’ll see what happens.”
The former Cagliari manager seemed positive about the future and felt that his side would be taking each match as it comes, adding:
“With three points, a series of victories can open an unexpected outlook.”
Novara currently sit in the 19th position of the Lega and still have a deficit of 11 points to overcome, with survival seeming highly unlikely.
