Do you feel unappreciated at work? Is this industry wearing you down mentally. What do you do to counteract this. Do you just put it on auto pilot? I am not going to get fired, but there is a limit to how much crazy stuff i can get away with before i do turn insane. Help me.

  1. Always feel underappreciated.  Managers don't see you as a necessity and don't usually care if you make money just as long as you're making them money.  I'm looking for a job outside of the industry.  I'm tired of dealing with ungrateful customers that either don't tip or barely tip.  (I do carside)   I counter it by making fun of people... mostly customers and the outrageous things they do and or wear.

  2. alright buddy. You seem kinda stressed, it comes with the job, dont expect to be appreciated your servicing people that  probably have a little more than you, if you cant handle it leave

  3. I used to feel that way too. but one day my bosses just started telling me what a great job i do, and how much they appreciate me. i also got an employee of the month award, and my GM posted some thank you comments to me on our corporate employee website. i think a lot of this stems from the fact that i do everything i possibly can to make their jobs easier and sincerely care about the integrity of our restaurant. doing my job is expected, doing more is appreciated.

BTW i do have a lot of extra tasks so i do get stressed too, i cope very well also. been there 5 yrs. it helps me to chill with other servers and unwind/vent after work (i'm sure ya know what i mean).

  4. I had to go to fine dining and work with professionals to do it for me.  Find a place that prides itself on being progressive and takes it's time to educate it's people.

  5. Restaurants have a very high turnover of employees and this is one of the reasons. You may have to try quite a few before you find the one that you really fit into, but when you do it's heaven. I think a lot of people working in restaurants feel that it's just a disposable job; if they get fired they can find work just as easily somewhere else. This should really not be the case in my opinion. I've been in the industry for 7 years and put my heart and soul into it and for the most part don't care too much about the tips I get (it all evens out in the end if you're a good server and have a positive outlook on life). Try try try to get through it, to please your employer and get on the good side of your coworkers and eventually you'll find the restaurant that you really fit. Otherwise you'll find another profession to be in and hopefully you'll be happy there

  6. take a vacation, go and do something to relax for a weekend. even if its in the middle of the week
