Attorney for New Orleans Saints LB Jonathan Vilma talks about his clients suspension - NFL News
New Orleans Saints linebacker, Jonathan Vilma, filed an appeal against his long-term suspension from the game through his lawyer, Peter Ginsberg. His appeal cited that the commissioner, Roger Goodell has still not shared any viable evidence used to relate
his client to the Saints bounty scandal.
Ginsberg repeated the same allegations in a radio interview on Tuesday and said that the commissioner has not responded to his repeated requests to see the evidence used in handing down the player punishments.
According to a report by the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Ginsberg said in his interview.
"I must say that the commissioner still hasn't responded to this most recent request. This is not the first time we have asked them for the evidence."
Adding further the lawyer went on to accuse the National Football League (NFL) of being scared of showing the evidence which would prove to everyone that Vilma was in no way guilty of the accusations levelled at him.
"The evidence is not what the commissioner says it is. At the end of the day, I think all of you will come to the conclusion that what the commissioner has been accusing Jonathan and the others of doing is not correct. I think that's why we haven't received
the evidence.
He continued.
And I think that's the commissioner's biggest fear that at some point we will find the right forum that will make the commissioner answer for what he's said and what he's done."
His client was suspended by the NFL for the entirety of the 2012-13 season when Goodell handed down the player punishments early last week.
Vilma received the harshest punishments by the league as he was accused of being one of the leading minds behind the bounty scheme and contributing major sums of money.
The player has repeatedly denied all accusations and released a hard hitting statement through his publicist right after the announcement of his suspension in which he demanded to see the evidence taken into consideration by the league.
No date has yet been set by the NFL to hear the player’s appeal but it is likely to be announced soon.
