Question:

Attractive news readers...!?

Hey

I don't know about other countries but in the UK there are a lot of unattractive male news readers. Now I haven't got a problem with this - I don't think it should matter. However, all the female news readers are very pretty. I would bet money that an unattractive female would never get to be a news reader, never mind how qualified she was for the job, because she didn't look 'right'.

Is this very fair?

  1. Robin Meade in the states - yum.

  2. I don't think it's fair.  In the US, however, most major news shows have attractive women and men, and not just women.  With that being said, there is a local news show that I watch that appears to be the exception.  As far as the news that is reported is concerned on this particular show, I do not feel as if it is affected.  They are overall unattractive, but you get used to it.

Honestly--albeit unfortunately--all other things being equal, I would probably watch a show with better looking people (especially the women).  Perhaps that is what makes me a man.  If an attractive woman can report the news as well as an unattractive woman, the attractive woman gets the jobs.  As unfair as that is, it appears to be the truth.  Perhaps women on the other hand could care less about the attractiveness of the men reporting and the news.  I don't know.

So yes, it seems unfair, but sadly, that is the way it is.

  3. there is an old saying

      'if the face fit's'

in the BBC we all know it who you know etc. on ITV etc its a commercial decision a bit like air hostesses. no company want  to have older  women shuffling tea and drinks up and  down a  cabin ailse so on TV which is a showcase they want to present a young pretty and vibrant facade.

behind the scenes  they try and back stab each other  something awful.

  4. Ive noticed this in TV alot, Theres always a really pretty female presenter and a slightly nerdy male presenter, Look at the one show we get Christine Bleakley, you get Adrian Chiles......Equal rights for women to be pervs as well I say.

  5. I won't watch that Natasha Kaplinsky bird, rough as a bears **** I reckon, It's been banged more times than a pub door !

  6. Its incredibly unfair.  Ask Moira Stewart who was removed from mainline newsreading because she was considered too old and not attractive enough for the male viewers.

    Ridiculous!  Its the news!

  7. I for one couldn't care less what they look like - it's NEWS they're reading us - BUT I wish to God that all of them would stop this habit of pronouncing any words like pass, ask, bath, task or last to rhyme with the likes of mass, has, trash or bash. It's really annoying and NOT English ! ! !

(Now of course, all the 'experts' will come on and tell me that I'M THE ONE who's wrong..........)

  8. I'm sure you are right.  However, I really like Chris Eakin , newsreader on News 24.  He really appeals to me, a woman of a certain age.

  9. I agree. Good observation and its true.
