Question:

Au pair gaining citizenship in france?

I am living in France currently as an au pair in Paris. I will be here 1-2 years. I have a student visa, and now a carte de séjour.

The question is - after I am done as an au pair, is it possible I can stay here? I don't think I will want to leave! is it possible to gain French citizenship after, since I will have lived here for so long?

I would like to study here after..

Also, what if I were to get married to a French citizen?

Is it possible to do any of this with an au pair status?

  1. As Rillifane said you can apply for French citizenship, here is the site to have all the information you need

    http://www.prefecture-police-paris.inter...

  2. Anyone who is legally resident in France for five years can apply for citizenship by naturalization.

There are of course,  hoops you have to jump thru such as  speaking French, being integrated into the French community and demonstating an understanding of French customs, poltical ideals and such. Be aware that these are not mere formalities and people can be and frequently are rejected in their applications for citzenship.

  3. Getting married to a French citizen no longer gives you French citizenship as well. It does, however, give you the right to a carte de sejour "vie privée et familiale". This carte de sejour allows you to live and work in France. You still have to wait several years though to become a French citizen.

You should be able to do so on au pair status--but I would check with the Prefecture. My carte de sejour was travailleur temporaire when I got married and it got changed to family and private life w/o a problem.
