Aubrey Huff and Nate Schierholtz help San Francisco Giants defeat New York Mets 7-6 - MLB Update
The San Francisco Giants’ sluggers Nate Schierholtz and Aubrey Huff hit a homer each, as the club romped to a 7-6 victory against the New York Mets at Citi Field stadium on Tuesday, May 3 to take a 1-0 lead in the three-game series.
The win was the result of the technique that the Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy employed during the practice session. Bochy utilised the knuckleballs method to prepare his batters to take on the Mets’ starter Robert Allen Dickey. However, he did not give full
attention to his starter Ryan Vogelsong, who gave five runs in just four innings.
Vogelsong allowed a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to the Mets’ top prospect Chris Beltran, who launched it to right-field. However, he took his revenge with the bat starting a four run scoring third inning with an RBI single. Aaron Rowand
hit an RBI single and Mike Fontenot added a RBI double to lead their team 4-3 in the top of the third inning.
The 33-year-old pitcher Vogelsong again threw loose and gave another homer this time to Ike Davis, who launched a 399-feet long hit for two-runs to take his team 5-4.
Vogelsong had bad day with the ball, still he received words of praise from third baseman Mike Fontenot. He told reporters, "It's nice to see something like that. He threw a couple rounds, pretty good knuckleballs. I am not going to say it had as much movement
as Dickey's did, but it kind of got us in the frame of mind. It is not bad. I could tell he's been working on it a little bit."
The Giants’ second baseman, Emmanuel Burriss, hit a 5-5 tying RBI single on a ground out. Schierholtz smashed a splendid 411-feet one-run homer to right-field to take his team to 6-5. However, the Mets were not ready to let the game get away easily as their
short-stop chipped to centre-field for an RBI single which again tied the game six all.
Schierholtz, keeping in mind the club’s average performance this season, regarded this game as the power booster for the defending World Series champions.
Nate said, "It was big for us to put up some runs. Just a matter of time....We are not worried. You go through ups and downs as a team. We had plenty of them last year. Better early than late."
Javier Lopez and Francisco Rodriguez runaway dangerous bump in the ninth before Huff launched a homer to right-field taking San Francisco to their fourteenth victory this season.
The Mets’ starter, Dickey gave six runs on seven hits, allowed six earned runs and one walk while striking-out just one batter. The relievers, Dillon Gee, Jason Isringhausen and Francisco Rodriguez remained scoreless while the closer Taylor Buchholz yielded
the losing homer.
