Aubrey Huff shines as San Francisco Giants defeat Oakland Athletics 2-1 - Part 2

In the first match of the inter league three game set between the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics, it was the Giants who won, and to everyone’s surprise, Aubrey Huff delivered the winning shot.
This victory marked the seventh consecutive one for the Giants at AT&T Park where 10 out of their 11 wins have come at a margin of only one run.
The first run of the match came from the Giants side in the very first inning as Freddy Sanchez grounded out to second base and Andres Torres scored.
The Athletics were the next ones to score as Trevor Cahill grounded the ball into double play to the second short-stop from the first and Mark Ellis scored moving Cliff Pennington out at second base and Kevin Kouzmanoff to the third one.
"Every play in a game like that is magnified," A's manager Bob Geren said. "You have to take advantage of every opportunity you can, especially in a pretty good pitcher's park."
The last run that saved the game came courtesy of Aubrey Huff. The particular run was perhaps the biggest moment of the night for the Giants as well as Huff. The game ending single at the end of the tenth inning gave the Giants a 2-1 victory over the Athletics.
"That's what this team does -- guys come through in the clutch," Huff said.
The win also marked the third consecutive win for the National League West leading team. A spectacular display of defensive plays was demonstrated throughout the game from Freddy Sanchez, Nate Schierholtz and Huff who teamed up to hand the Athletics their
third straight loss.
Javier Lopez pitched a flawless inning for the win. Ryan Vogelsong and Trevor Cahill went head-to-head and put up a great pitching duel which was much more entertaining than the below average bull-pen’s of both teams. The match wasn’t as heated as anyone
would have liked and the Giants barely managed to get the win. At the end of the day though, it was a win and that is what counts most.
Vogelsong pitched six strong innings in which he only let one unearned run along with four hits pass him by. He has managed to successfully impress everyone by winning all of the five starts he has made this season.
It will be interesting to see how the Giants carry their winning momentum forward into their next match-up. The Athletics put in a decent performance, but it was not enough to contain the Giants’ offence on the night. The erratic Giants performance seems
to have balanced out, as they are back to their winning ways and dominating other high calibre teams.
