Auckland International 2012: Nurvita Hanadia, Devi Tika emerge as champions in Women’s Doubles event
Indonesia’s Nurvita Hanadia Keshya-Devi Tika Permatasari seized the Women’s Doubles crown in Sotx Auckland International after overwhelming Amanda Brown-Kritteka Gregory on Sunday, June 24, 2012.
The duo just took 25 minutes on the court to seal a straight-set win with favourable margin of 21-15 and 21-18.
Nurvita Hanadia and Devi Tika, who were also top ranked duo of the event, continued with their glorious form and managed to stay invincible in the title match as well.
On the other hand, New Zealand shuttlers could not rise from the dust throughout this crucial match and paved a path to victory for their challengers.
In first set, the Indonesian campaigners dictated the opposing team from very first shot to last one. They did not commit any mistake and manipulated every loophole masterly.
They laid foundation of their dominance by clinching four consecutive points straight away in the beginning. This initial advantage helped them to keep their competitors under pressure.
They employed unusual tactics and their strategy was so complete that several times they beat their rivals’ moves even before it was made.
First half of the set got concluded with Nurvita Hanadia-Devi Tika leading in respectable total of 11-7.
After one-minute break, they lost grip for short span of time as Amanda-Kritteka made swift progress by prevailing in couple of continuous rallies.
They narrowed the gap at 11-13 but their expedition was put to halt by Indonesians who reinstated their grip over the contest.
They bagged eight out of last twelve points and finished first segment with a decisive figure of 21-15.
However, they had to face strong resistance in next game as the New Zealand girls put everything they had to keep the contest alive.
In the beginning, the twosome of Amanda and Kritteka got into commanding position with 8-3 score but they made some fatal mistakes which resulted in tight margin of 11-9 at half time.
Later part of the game saw them losing few crucial rallies in a row and their opponents relished full benefits of their slide.
The spirited duo Nurvita-Devi kept proceeding steadily and secured their spot at top of the victory stand with final result of 21-18.
