Auckland v Canterbury – HRV Cup, 2012/13 – Match Update – Auckland Aces secure narrow 8-run victory
In a closely contested match, a 4-wicket haul from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 Aces’ Andre Adams ended up making all the difference, as the team went on to clinch a close 8-run win over the Canterbury Wizards, in their T20 match played during the HRV Cup, at the Eden Park
in Auckland, today on December 21.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brendon-Diamanti-c1193 (both of whom picked up one wicket each), made valiant attempts to check the Aces' batsmen.
However, wicketkeeper skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Colin-de-Grandhomme-c51409 led the team up to a daunting total of 197.
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anaru-Kitchen-c1032 (11) managed a slightly better showing, after which he was sent back to the pavilion by Diamanti,
but it was the 58-run partnership between Hopkins (64) and de Grandhomme (60), followed by a 48-run partnership between de Grandhomme and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Cachopa-c51669 (25) – after the skipper was send packing by McCone - that took the team up to a total of 168.
The 17th over saw de Grandhomme run out, and Cachopa caught out by George Worker off von Beek, who followed up with the wicket of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andre-Adams-c1033 (1*) at the
crease, the Aces posted a solid total of 197.
In the end, the target proved too high for the Wizards to chase successfully. Top-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dean-Brownlie-c1349 (48) made valiant attempts to keep their side in the game, and set up a 106-run partnership for the second wicket. They were
aided in their efforts by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bradley-Cachopa-c48278 (25) and Diamanti (29).
However, while they managed to hold their own, the remainder of the batting order failed to do much, and the final over saw Gareth Andrew (0) run out, while Adams (4-0-20-4) sent Diamanti, Brownlie, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Beek (0) back to the pavilion. Canterbury were
eventually cut off at 189, and the Auckland Aces secured an 8-run win.
