Auckland v Canterbury – Plunket Shield, 2012/13 – Match Update – Auckland Aces win by 7 wickets
A stellar effort from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 Aces claiming a 7-wicket win over the Canterbury Wizards in their Plunket Shield match, played from December 16 to 19, at the Eden Park No 2 in Auckland.
Canterbury won the toss and chose to field first, but the assaults of Mills (31-6-109-5) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dean-Brownlie-c1349 (75), most of the top and middle order proved fairly disappointing, and it wasn’t until number
7 batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Todd-Astle-c2697 (50) walked out onto the pitch that the Wizards’ innings began to pick up pace. Gareth Andrew was the main performer, and drove his side’s innings with an unbeaten 180. The Aces were unable to bowl them out, and Canterbury eventually declared
at a first innings total of 405.
The Aces were unable to surpass the total posted by the Wizards, and their first innings was hampered by the attacks of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GJ-Hopkins-c1490 (122*) was the star
performer, and while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mills-c76321 (70) chipped in with half-tons, their lone efforts were not enough, with the team succumbing, all out, at a total of 307.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Herrick-Worker-c59349 (19), Tom Latham (15), Brownlie (39), and
Gareth Andrew (19) were the only ones who reached double figures, while the rest failed to put up a fight. The team eventually set the Aces a 219-run target to chase.
Auckland, however, recovered quickly from their poor performances earlier in the game, and put in a concentrated effort which got them over the finish line with ease. Opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TG-McIntosh-c2658 led the chase with his unbeaten 77 (which included 13 boundaries),
and aided by the efforts of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Cachopa-c51669 (57), and Mustard (1*), got the Auckland Aces up to 219 within 44 overs, enabling them to claim a 7-wicket win over the Canterbury Wizards.
