Auckland v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ryan-McCone-c87321 keeps Canterbury in the driving seat
The Canterbury Wizards’ Ryan McCone nipped out four batsmen as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 Aces took to the field for their first innings after the Wizards had declared at a total of 405, limiting them to 264 for 7 by stumps on the second day of their ongoing Plunket Shield
match, played at the Eden Park No 2 in Auckland, today on December 17.
The match had kicked off on day one with the Wizards winning the toss and choosing to bat first. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bruce-Edward-Martin-c48703 (31-9-80-2).
From the top and middle order, Cole McConchie (7), skipper Tom Latham (7), Henry Nicholls (4), and wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dean-Brownlie-c1349 (75) put in impressive
performances.
Brownlie, in particular, displayed immense staying power at the crease, and followed up his 70-run 6th-wicket stand with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Todd-Astle-c2697 (50), with a 119-run partnership with Gareth Andrew (180*). Astle and Brownlie were both dismissed by Mills, but
Andrew stuck it out until the end, and aided by Ryan McCone (11) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/William-Meehan-Lonsdale-c97593 (20), got the team up to a total of 405, after which they declared, early on the second day of play.
The Aces then stepped up to commence their second innings, but Gareth Andrew (15-3-51-2) put the team at an immediate disadvantage, by taking top-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Cachopa-c51669
(18) attempted to settle down at the crease, but both were eventually sent packing, trapped lbw by McCone (14-1-47-4).
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Graham-Downton-c44379 Nuttall dismissed Mustard, and McCone
swept his successor Bruce Martin (4) off the pitch, the team was at 137 for 7.
However, Hopkins found a promising partner in Kyle http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mills-c76321 (61*), and their as-yet unbeaten 127-run stand got the team up to 264 by the end of the day. Having lost 7 wickets already, the Aces are in a tight corner, and everything now depends on Hopkins and
Mills as they attempt to bring their team up to par with the Wizards’ first innings total of 405.
