Auckland received salvation from unexpected quarters on the second day of their ongoing Plunket Shield match against Northern Districts, when Bruce Martin, coming in at number 8, contributed a vital century to revive the team’s innings, with the Aces at
365 for 7 by stumps on November 11, at the Eden Park No 2 in Auckland.
The first day had seen Auckland winning the toss and choosing to field first. Bruce Martin (16.1-3-43-4), aided by Michael Bates (15-5-29-2) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Colin-de-Grandhomme-c51409 (10-2-23-2), tore into the Knights’ batting order. However, while they managed to ensure
that only 5 batsmen progressed beyond single digits, they were not able to rein http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joseph-Yovich-c1735 (106) in on time.
Yovich remained the only notable performer for Northern Districts, with skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knights-c805 ended their first innings at
208, all out.
The Aces then proceeded to kick off their first innings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graeme-Aldridge-c1502 (21-6-55-1), and McIntosh (27) followed suit shortly,
caught out by Wheater off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Corey-Anderson-c1282 (14-2-45-2).
Reece Young remained unremarkable, contributing just 14 before Anderson snapped him up as his second victim of the day, and wicketkeeper skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brent-John-Arnel-c48390 (25-6-75-1). de Grandhomme (45), however,
managed a decent contribution, in addition to teaming up with Colin Munro (27) for a 38-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Both batsmen fell in successive overs, de Grandhomme off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Cachopa-c51669
(82) revived the innings brilliantly with a 168-run stand for the 7th wicket.
Their combined efforts got the team up to 318, after which Sodhi picked Cachopa up as his second wicket of the day. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Bates-c1947 (10*) for an as yet unbeaten 47-run partnership, with the Aces eventually finishing
at 365 for 7 by stumps on day 2.
