Auckland v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northern-Districts-c825 – Plunket Shield, 2012/13 – Match Update
Bolstered by the all-round heroics of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bruce-Edward-Martin-c48703, the Auckland Aces clinched a comfortable 10-wicket win over the Northern Districts during their first-class match in the ongoing Plunket Shield, played from November 10 to 12 at the Eden Park No 2 in Auckland.
The Aces got the match started on their own terms, after winning the toss and choosing to field first. The Northern Districts very nearly collapsed under the strength of the attack containing Martin (16.1-3-43-4), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Bates-c1947 (15-5-29-2), and Colin de
Grandhomme (10-2-23-2), with only 5 batsmen moving beyond single figures. The Knights would have ended up posting a dismal first innings total were it not for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joseph-Yovich-c1735 (106), who got the team up to a respectable 208 before they were all out on the first
day.
Auckland’s first innings got off to a slow start, with a handful of batsmen managing to get starts, but failing to turn them into substantial scores. The Knights’ http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Corey-Anderson-c1282 (14-2-45-2) and Ish
Sodhi (16-5-55-2) made valiant attempts to keep their opponents in line.
The best performances from the Aces’ top and middle order were registered by de Grandhomme (45) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Cachopa-c51669 (82), and by the 55th over, the team was at 150 for 6. However, coming in at 8, Martin revived the innings in a big way, with a solid
114, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 managed to post a first innings total of 392, all out.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dean-Joseph-Bartlett-c53386 (11-5-23-2). Putting a tight restriction on the run flow,
the Aces managed to bowl the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knights-c805 out for a paltry total.
Once again Yovich top-scored for the team – however, this time he only managed a 42, and none of the remaining batsmen were able to move beyond 24. By the 80th over, on day three, Northern Districts were all out at 196, setting the Aces a meagre
13-run target to chase.
Predictably, Auckland faced no trouble in reaching the target, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TG-McIntosh-c2658 (4*) saw their team home with 10 wickets to spare.
