Auction without reserve?

Question

I place a bid for a lovely wardrobe at an aution for $40.00 the auction was without reserved. The auctioneer withdrew the bid when i bid he said it was too low what is your view on this issue.

i think that was a violation. if the auction is no reserve whatever the highest price will be the amount it should be sold for.
