Audacity ringtones sound screechy?

when I import a song to make a ringtone, It sounds like a loud screech. What did I do wrong?

It is probably because the sample rate/sample format is too low, there is a lot loss during the conversion from high rate to low rate.

Since there is a trade off between fidelity (high sample rate 48000, and 32 bit format) and file size, high fidelity means big file, so it is recommended that you use a top down approach, lower those rates 1 notch at a time.

Besides, check out the acceptable formats of the ring tone, different compression format also has a bit of effect on the result.
