Question:

Audacity will not record my PC audio. What am I missing?

I can't get any audiograbber to recognize that I am playing audio from the internet so I can record it. I play the video I want on the internet, then click record on Audacity, but nothing comes through. If I can hear it on my PC speakers, shouldn't I be able to record it? Is there an issue with my PC I have to address or something I have to tell Audacity? Help me...

  1. I'm assuming your using Vista. If that's the case there is a way to do it as long as you don't have a Sony Vaio. This feature is permenantly disabled on all Vista Vaio's for copywrite purposes. If you don't have a Viao, you have to enable the wave mapper (which records all sounds from your speakers). How you do that is as follows:

Select 'Control Panel' from start menu

    Select 'Sounds'

    Select the 'Recording' tab

In a blank space under the listed items, right click the mouse

    Select 'Show disabled devices'

You will now see "Wave mapper"

Right click it on it and select 'Enable'.

That's it! When you record in Audaciity, the Source field will be blank but it will record the speaker sounds now. Good luck.
