Audi Azzurra Sailing Team tactician Vasco Vascotto believes they need to pay attention
Opening day of the 2012 52 Super Series was totally dominated by the Italy’s Audi Azzurra Sailing Team as they cruised into the leading podium place compiling two important bullets in the first two races. The Italian team managed to make it to the second
podium finish in the third race and breezed into the top spot of the fleet standings.
However, the second day proceedings for the regatta went accordingly but they finished on lower podiums as compared to the leader of the result board Sweden’s Ran. They were placed on the second podium place despite securing the same points as the Swedish
team.
The Italian team clinched a second finish and a third place to occupy the second spot while Ran made a huge success hitting a bullet in the first race of the second day while adding a third position in the second races of the day.
The Audi Azzurra Sailing Team is now aiming to get back into the original game and clinch the leading podium spot of the fleet.
While speaking to the local media, Audi Azzurra sailing Team’s tactician Vasco Vascotto said that compared to the first day, they made some mistakes in all areas, and so they had to face the music. But it is quite clear that when Quantum are ahead of them
they try to slow them much as they can.
He added that it will be a thrilling game from now until the end of the season. Rán is a little more clear of that, nobody is watching for them right now, but later on they will need to pay attention because they are quick, especially downwind, and they
are sailing well. They have good sailors on board and that is why they are leading.
Overall standings at the end of Day 2:
1. Rán (SWE) 2, 2, 1, 3, 1 = 9 Points
2. Audi Azzurra Sailing Team (ITA), 1, 1, 2, 2, 3 = 9 Points
