Audi Medcup Cascais Trophy 2011: Green team of Quantum Racing grabs victory – Sailing News
The green team of Quantum Racing (USA) has won the 2011 Audi Medcup Cascais Trophy in the TP52 series at Portugal. The American, Quantum Racing won five of the nine races to grab 19 points in the
end and clinch the top place at the regatta with a brand new green boat designed by Botin Partners.
Quantum Racing was well behind their schedule during the regatta, but showed great resilience in the later part of the Cascais regatta. They took advantage of heavy winds and with the excellent sailing
techniques of the crew, Quantum Racing was able to reveal the outstanding upwind speed to make a successful race.
The team made a few changes in the crew since the last sailing season and was able to make a tremendous voyage with the help of World Championship winner crew members like the navigator
Kevin Hall, tactician Ado Stead, and mainsail trimmer Skip Baxter. They gave their non-stop support and valuable services to
the Quantum Racing skipper Ed Baird, which boosted his confidence and he was able to bring the team at the top in the regatta.
The skipper Baird was delighted after grabbing the victory and appreciated the crew on their matchless effort in the race to occupy the first place.
Speaking to reporters after the race, Baird said, “The guys have done a great job figuring out how to make this boat go and obviously it worked out pretty nicely. We have a lot to talk about now and
find a way to sail faster, there are plenty of things to do before the next event.”
The skipper added, “When it´s windy like that you have to be in the hunt at the first top mark, you have to be going fast down there. It´s important to find that lane Adrian and Kevin Hall did great
guiding us in the racecourse, gave us great confidence and it worked out great.”
