Audi-Newport and Tres Vinos conclude at 9-9 draw at 2011 USPA Eastern Challenge Cup: Polo News
The consolation match of the 2011 United States Polo Association (USPA) Eastern Challenge Cup between Audi-Newport and Tres Vinos was concluded at nine-all draw. The nail-biting contest was held at the Grand Champions Polo Club in Wellington, city of Florida.
The two sides opened the consolation contest quite professionally and carried out back-to-back attacks to either side, but to no avail. It was Audi-Newport that drew the first blood in the opening chukka and established their dominance onto the field. The
resilient defence from Audi-Newport kept Tres Vinos off the scoreboard in the first seven and half minute of play.
The third set of play was quite hard-hitting, as five goals were scored in the period. Brandon Phillips converted a spot shot while Tommy Biddle made it from the field effort to bring Tres Vinos into the score net. However, the players from Audi were not
just sitting silently and watching the game. Marc Ganzi scored a couple of goals, while Lucas Lalor added a point from the field to put Audi ahead onto the score-board. After two sets of play, Tres Vinos was trailing by a couple of goal, 4-2.
From the third chukka, the Tres Vinos displayed more offensive game to make a comeback into the match. Goldstein scored another goal to further expand the Audi lead up to three goals. However, the Tres Vinos roared back with couple of goals getting in the
hands of Biddle and Phillips. The first three chukkas conclude with Tres Vinos trailing by a single goal, 5-4.
In the fourth round, the Tres Vinos attack came alive and notched three goals while holding Audi-Newport only for a single goal. Lalor nailed the only goal for Audi side. From the other side, Omar Trevino, Biddle and Phillips scored one goal each and established
their first lead in the contest. At the end of the period, Tres Vinos held a single goal edge, 7-6.
In the second last period, the lead again changed hands and Audi regained a single goal lead. Sugar Erskine marked a couple of goals while holding Tres Vinos scoreless in the period.
In the final action, Lalor scored another goal to expand the lead. However, Phillips notched another two goals and had it all even at nine-all.
Phillips set the pace for Tres Vinos with five notches while Biddle and Trevino scored three and one goal, respectively. From the other side, Ganzi, Goldstein and Erskine scored a couple of goals each in the draw. Lucas Lalor added three goals and got a
MVP award.
