Audi Sailing Team retains lead at 2011 Audi MedCup Region of Sardinia Trophy
Franco-German crew of Audi Sailing Team Powered by All4One sailed brilliantly at the Gulf of Cagliari in Sardinia to retain their lead on Day 3 of 2011 Region of Sardinia Trophy. The Jochen Schuemann skippered Audi Sailing Team
Powered by All4One grabbed their second victory of the event. Sardinia Region Trophy is the third regatta of 2011 Audi MedCup Circuit.
Unlike the first two days of Sardinia Region regatta, the weather conditions were light on Day 3, which helped Jochen Schuemann and Sebastien Col sail terrifically and grab a winning momentum during the race. Now Audi Sailing
Team Powered by All4One is on top of the standings with 12 points, followed by the American sailing team, Quantum Racing, at number two with 18 points.
The Franco-German sailing team duelled with Niklas Zennström’s Rán at the pin end but ducked five sterns to the right in the beginning of the beat. The Audi Sailing Team tactician, Col, told the reporters there had been a long
discussion between the afterguard whether to duck left or right and their early call favoured the left offshore side.
Speaking to the local media, Col said, “Rán did a really good job off the pin end of the line and when we had to get out of there then I could see pressure on the right side of the course and we went for that. That gave us a
nice lead.”
He added, “For sure there is a good feeling on the boat now, a nice ambiance. We have some speed now, we are not the quickest but now we are starting to be able to do what we want to do, not what we have to do.”
