Question:

Audi a4 Good deal?

Its a 2000 audi a4 with 1.8 engine and 94k miles, leather seats but not wood trim. It is allegedly with the sports package, and it appears to have blue tinted glass, to match the car's color obviously. Is this a good deal for $8000

  1. The price is ABOUT right  (I own 2000 Audi A4 1.8T - 65k miles).

But I would NEVER buy another audi.  The maintenance is just too expensive.  Ask when the timing belt was done.  It should be done at 60K - 90K (I got mind done at 60K).

If he/she can't show proof of timing belt swap recently you HAVE TO change the timing (other wise you risk $4k to $7k engine damage).  So add another $1200 (timing belt - parts and labor) to the price.

    Good Luck...

P.S.  Make sure you check the engine for sludge build up.  common 1.8 T problem

  2. Make sure the timing belt, H20 Pump, rollers, and thermostat have been changed.  Also, regular oil changes, and coolant changes every two years.  You can tell its a sport with the Audi motorsports flag at the six o'clock position on the steering wheel's arms.  Blue tinted glass is not factory, its probably an add on.  Get the car THOROUGHLY checked out by a German car mechanic prior to purchase.

  3. Check the price on kbb.com and nadaguides.com. Of course it also depends on the car's condtion and it's history. Get a mechanic to check it over and get a CarFax vehicle history report.

Do this BEFORE you buy because used cars are sold "as-is" which means you can't take it back if you find problems later. Do not take the word of the seller about the car's condition.

    Good luck.
