Audi tt turns on then shuts off?

i have an 04 tt and about a week ago this happened at work but for the last couple days it had been turning on. the car didnt feel the same for some reason but didnt have time to take it to the dealer. any ways i was at the mall and the car started then just died on me. the car has been at the mall since yesterday afternoon. anyone know how i can get it going? to at take it to the dealer or at least bring it home? or maybe how i can fix the problem myself because the dealer wants to charge me 100$ just to diagnose the problem! thanks

I work for Audi. Two thing Mass air flow-meter. Or the imobilizer for your key. Two questions is there a red flashing light that looks like a car at the bottom of the insterment cluster? When you start it. If that happens try another key.(your spare key) Easy fix. Second thing you can try to unplug the mass air flow meter to and start it to if it runs. Drive it to the dealer some of the mass air flow meters have an extended warranty. Have them run your VIN to see if it is covered. If this doesnt help you out then you will have to take it to a dealer. Try yellow pages to see if there is a good independent shop to take it to. Oh sorry the mass air flow meter is inline with the air filter box. to the throttle body on the very top of the engine. Air filter box on the right hand side under the hood toward the front of the car has a tube running up to the throttle body (where the air goes into the engine) If you need more help my email is joshua_bannon@yahoo

could be a number of things better to let a mechanic look at it. oxygen sensor or fuel sensor could be bad and giving incorrect readings causing the engine to seize up and die.or the alternator or battery could be bad. there are too many things that can go wrong for a car not to start.
