Question:

Audi turn signal weirdness

Had this 2003 A4 for almost a year now. Been good until a week ago.

What happens is, when i turn the right signal on, it will flash in this order: Right, Left, Left, Right, then keeps flashing right.

The weird part is, this only happens if push the turn signal lever far enough to "lock" it. If I push it up just a bit and hold it there, it works fine.

This only happens with the Right signal. Left and emergency flashers seem to work fine.

Any suggestions on what to try or check for? I can't really afford to bring it in the shop for a while.

Thanks in advance.

  1. it sounds like the switch is going bad,

  2. you should bring it to a shop, it sounds like a problem with the wiring, but it probably won't take long to fix!

  3. Sounds like the sending switch on the steering column is going bad or the wiring from the switch is bare and shorting out further down on the column.

Unless you have some good mechanical skills with cars (especially around the air bag in the steering wheel, I wouldn't mess with it.  Take it to a reputable foreign car specialist near you.

    Good luck!

  4. The problem with German cars, not just Audi, is that they are known for having electrical problems such as power windows getting stuck and fuses for the lights that make the transmission get stuck in 3rd gear.

Sounds like you don't have to fix it and waste the money.

But if it annoys you, then fix it.

  5. When I had a 3-Series, this exact same thing happened. For me, it was a short in the wiring. The dealer blamed it on me for "neglecting the car", they said they fixed it, but it never worked properly, until I crashed the car and it got fixed. That is why I now drive Audi's.

Anyway, take it to your dealer, I am sure they see this all the time. It is most likely occurring in the steering column. Good Luck

  6. Lots of people have the switch go bad. Its not something you need to go to the shop for. You can get them off Ebay and install it yourself.
