Question:

Audio CDs are no longer recognized by my system after Yahoo Music Jukebox updated itself - why?

While using the Yahoo Music Jukebox it updated itself, afterward the system would not longer recognize Audio CDs when inserted. This happens with all audio CDs tried, but the drive is quiet happy to read data CDs.

I cannot uninstall Music Jukebox as it is not in the "Add/Remove Control Panel", and I can not find any other way to uninstall it. I tried updating Music Jukebox again but it wouldn't do it as the version hadn't changed. Is this a known problem? How can I resolve it?

Addition info: The system has Media Player 11 installed

Thanks

  1. Why not try system restore to a date before the upgrade this will remove  the update and hopefully you will be able to play your CD's once again although I have the updated version on my computer and I don't have the problem that you are describing, good luck with this.

  2. Try the other posters suggestion first.  If that works ok, then you uninstall via add or remove programs and then re-install to get the upgrade. It seems that the YMJ update (updated itself) has problems.  If Yahoo Music Jukebox doesn't show (please check again), it means the installer had a problem.  The audio CD problem may be a sympton of the bad install.  So lets try to get rid of YMJ and then re-install.  Download the following Microsoft utility:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Use the download link on the above page.

Run the utility and see if it shows an entry for Yahoo Music Jukebox.  If so (hooray), uninstall.

Now run a free Microsoft cleaner (make sure you turn off your pop-up blocker and allow it to install the ActiveX):

This is microsoft stuff so don't worry about adware/spyware.  I am paranoid about that stuff and I use the cleanup all the time.

    Reboot.

Now go to this site to install latest YMJ:

    http://music.yahoo.com/jukebox/

    Now try your audio CD.

Note:  If you can't get rid of YMJ with the Microsoft Clean-up Utility, then manual registry editing is required, but if you haven't done that stuff before it can be dangerous.  Good luck.
