Question:

Audio for HDTV?

I want to improve the sound on my HDTV but do not want any kind of fancy surround system. I have a red and white jack saying "audio out." Can I hook low price speakers directly to them. Do speakers come with the red and white cables? If so where do I find them, if not what do you do?

  1. The audio out connectors are for hooking to a stereo or home theater. They are "line-out" level and cannot drive speakers directly. If you have a stereo with an "AUX" or "tape in" you can get a cable from Walmart, or Radio Shack to connect them together.Or you can buy PC speakers or powered speakers and connect them directly to the TV audio out connectors.

    Good luck

  2. Hate to say it but you may be S.O.L. if you don't want any more components. I have seen some small powered speakers that have RCA inputs, but i wouldn't say they are an improvement buy any means.

Another  option would be just to buy a little two speaker shelve system that would take up very little room and provide much better sound. You can find these in the boom box sections at your Best Buys and Circuit Cities. Some even hold up 5 DVDs in stack formation.

NOTE: If you have a satellite or cable box that transmits HI-DEF content then use the DIGITAL audio connections for the BEST sound.

More questions? Just email me. I have owned a home theater business.

    Good luck
