Question:

Audio setup for ps3 with Onkyo SR800?

I have a ps3 and Onkyo receiver and it doesn't support audio with HDMI. Is there a way to get true HD LPCM 7.1 sound by hooking it up another way besides HDMI to receiver for video and Optical for audio?

  1. You should still get 7.1 audio through your optical or coaxial digital audio. I have the same receiver and I dont think there is much of a difference between TRUE HD audio

    and the regular audio,

  2. no. the only other way to is to have a player that has multichannel out andthe ps3 doesnt have that. I have the same problem as you and hope to be upgrading to a pioneer elite 94 txh.

  3. No.

Your "digital coax" and "optical" inputs will not deliver 7.1

Yamaha receivers deliver "presence channels" and anything else does the same  for the rear speakers...but it is all "phantom" imaging only to create a better sound stage.

Thats nice but... but not truly encoded in 7 (plus) channels

True 7.1 can only be achieved by re-mastered soundtracks in DTS-HD or Dolby Tru-HD, However...

    ... thats even just simulated

No movies or films have yet to be mastered (recorded) beyond Dolbly 5.1 or DTS 5.1

    Good Luck
