Audio visual question about an outlet you plug cables into?

Alright,

I am redoing my house and i want to have all the cables that go from my wall-mounted television, to go behind the TV and plug into an outlet of some sort, and have the outlet run behind the wall, and have another one at the bottom of the wall, where you can plug in a DVD player and such.

I have seen it before, but dont know what to look under as most stores do not normally carry it.

THanks for your help!

  1. You don't really need an outlet, what you need is a conduit or pipe to run the cables in.  An electrician can do this for you or you can do it yourself.  Make sure the conduit is big enough to fit all the cables and connectors.  If there is a lot of cables and the distance between where they need to go in and out is not too long, you can just run them inside the wall with no conduit although that may not be allowed by building code.

You may want to have an electrician wire an AC outlet behind the TV and behind where the components are.

  2. The other answer is great.  You can also go to a home entertainment store and get suggestions or parts from them.  There's nothing off-the-shelf for what you want to do but these connector panels can easily be built to your needs.  You could have a connector plate behind your TV and another one in a shelf or where ever is convenient.  If the distance were a bit longer than normal this might be the best bet.
