Question:

Audition (major) nerves!?

Okay so I have an audition coming up in 3 days and nervous.

Like my arms shake, and not just when I play, and my stomach is all in knotts and stuff.

Does any one have any tips on how to cyre my pre-audition jitters??

Like breathing exercises or any tricks at all???

  1. yea take deep breaths and try your hardest believe me it will all be worth it

It can depend on what instrument it is you're playing, but I find, when I'm going into exams, having something familiar helps, it kind of...makes it feel like its a performance, not an audition or exam, deep breaths help, but if your playing wind or brass it can just lead to dizziness :D! Umm. don't over practice, and when you get in there, the adrenaline will kick in, you'll forget you're even in an audition!

  4. I know EXACTLY how you feel. I've been through it. Honestly, I had to 'trick' myself to believe that I was thoroughly confident. I know it sounds weird, but you have to believe it.

    Ok, I have the best advice that was given to me by my teacher in college!

    Find 3 things that YOU want to accomplish for YOURSELF in EVERY performance, whether it's an audition or not. Because in the end, it's about your performance...it's about how YOU feel about what you did. If you feel good about it, it's far easier to understand if you don't get the part, right? So find 3 things...maybe it's your breath, phrasing, or where you look while you're in the middle of the piece/monologue). If it's that you need to slow something down...you know more than I about what you're doing...but find something that takes your mind off the nerves by giving you a job to do! ;)

    This has worked for me since...nerves still happen, but I can now calm myself with the job at hand.

  6. Dont think about it as much. Before going in to audition take 3 big breaths. Until then try not to think about it and if you cant stop thinking about it then just think of it this way, there is no reason to get nervous over something like this it is not like you are planning a theft or kill. Those are the only things that should get people nervous. What type of audition is it by the way? Dont worry about it every contestant gets nervous it is just how that persons copes and handles this anxiety that determines the winner. Drink orange juice and eat oranges this will help but dont drink to much on that day because you might have to go to the restroom.
