I'm seventeen years old and I'm going to be auditioning for Hello, Dolly! My aim is to get the role of Dolly Levi, that would be fantastic :D

We are asked to be prepared to sing a song from any musical-type show other than Hello, Dolly! I have NO idea what in the world I should sing. Anyone have a couple suggestions?

  1. You could sing

Diamonds are a girls best friend from Gentlemen prefer blondes

    Anything Goes

I could have danced all night from My fair lady

(sry nothing else came to mind)

  2. With all due respect, I suggest that's part of what effort you should expend in your desire. Obviously you'll have choices suggested here, and your best effort may still come from your own choice in what FITS you most comfortably.

Hopefully you know the part, have seen the performance, or film, no matter what versions, and have a sense of what you need do.

It's very likely something animated, even a bit loud, IN ONES FACE, with class, etc.

The process is merely to show any range you have, your stage presence, persona, sense of self confidence, etc.

Not knowing at all the venue, or even the genre, it may be this is a general audition, and any decent casting director or committee will make choices regarding characterizations.

In a sense the part as portrayed, is larger than Life, and your choice of how to make that apparent in you, should be the goal.

  3. A good audition song would be ******** Optimist from South Pacific.  Its up beat and shows your vocal power and range.  Hope that helps!
