I am 13 and have been taking dance for 7 years now. I went on pointe when I was ten. I have been thinking about auditioning for the Govener's School which is a place you can go to during the summer to work with professionals if you make it in. All my ballet teachers say i have a "tallent for ballet". I love it and would very much so like to persue my career later on in life as a dancer. The only problem is that I'm not sure if im ready to go to a place away from home for the WHOLE summer... what should I do??? HELP!

  1. hey, you need to do whats best for you. this could be the opportunity of a life time so think realy carefully about what you decide. just think of it this way you will get to meet and dance with some of the best dancers in the world and they will be able to help you with your faults. also remember that companies start taking dancers into their companies from the age of 16, so thats in 3 yrs. pretty exciting concept!

i know a couple of girls who over the Australian winter when to the Royal Ballet School's summer intensive and absolutely loved it. but they lived and breathed ballet. so i guess it comes down to how much you want to dance and whether you can handle it for 6 weeks. you will be seeing your parents and family again! good luck with what you decide! happy dancing! =)

  2. I think you should just go for it.  @ first it'll be freaky, but I think you would get so much out of it and be really proud that you did it in the end. GOOD LUCK!

  3. go. its something you love and its just three months. you can call and text people back home. and if you can make it in then go for it. it will be fun!!!

  4. Go for it!! Maybe you will have the option of going part time. I'd seek the help of your family and ballet teachers. Discuss how they feel about you leaving for a long period of time. Also, get your dance teacher's honest opinion. Ask her to be cruel and to inform you weather she thinks you could REALLY make it. If dancing is your true passion (as it seems to be), I'd say DO IT!! This might be a one time opportunity. If to you dancing is just a hobby you enjoy, leave it to your parents to decide. I wish you the best with your future in dancing. And if you do decide to try out, be confident and don't forget to smile!!
