Audley Harrison speaks about being bullied – Boxing News
Audley Harrison has been the centre of several controversies right from the beginning of his career. Even though he is a fantastic fist fighter, his personal issues have always led him to be a controversial figure rather than an outstanding heavyweight.
Recently, the Briton changed his ways and emerged as a completely changed man. Now, he tends to clarify what led him to destroying his career.
“I grew up in north London and when I was a kid I used to go to this place, Stonebridge Adventure Playground,” reveals Harrison. “The elders used to beat us up, punch us in the leg 10 times because we used to mouth off at them.
“I used to be the one who got back up and mouthed off again. They would come back, flatten me, punch me in the same place in my leg. My God, I couldn’t walk. But I would still give it the big ’un. Other people would say, ‘I’m sorry, please stop’. Not me.
That’s how I am. Nothing stops me.”
He even reflected at his past saying that he was a playboy and he never cared as to whose heart he broke. Harrison even admitted that he was a selfish person before and a monster. According to Briton, it was in 1996 against Danny Watts when he realised he
had to become a robot.
Harrison claims that his ‘no-emotions’ strategy was working for him until 2004, when ‘that stuff’ came and destroyed him. Remember the BBC’s decision of not renewing Harrison’s £1million contract? That is exactly what he is talking about here.
Back then, Harrison was undefeated and he was at his prime just when things stopped for him. Nothing was working out. According to him, it was a signal from the universe. Harrison admits that he lost everything with that deal and it hurt him.
Harrison, who kept all his emotions aside, found himself once again in the pool of depression, where he was drowning in pain. He iterates he was broken and he wanted to escape, that is when he decided to relocate to Los Angeles.
Now, Harrison time has once again given him the chance to fulfil his destiny, which is to grab the world title. He will be facing Briton heavyweight David Price soon to decide if he is capable of going for a heavyweight title.
