Audrey Lacroix dominates Women’s 200m butterfly heats - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Audrey Lacroix of PPO dominated the preliminary rounds of Women’s 200m butterfly on fourth day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Friday, March 30.
The 28-year-old Lacroix went full rampant in the four-lap butterfly event. With her immaculate efforts and unreachable pace, she enjoyed a lead of almost one body length over her strongest competitor, entering the final round as top fastest swimmer.
Lacroix stayed considerably ahead of her challengers and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.25 seconds to enter the final round. Her nerve-wracking pace was followed by MacKenzie Downing of WGB, who stayed 0.75 seconds slower from her preceding
swimmer and hit the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 12.00 seconds.
The 25-year-old Downing was chased by Noemie Thomas of VAND, who remained 0.99 seconds away from upsetting the second position holder of the discipline and completed her race by posting a time of 2 minutes and 12.99 seconds for third position.
Noemie was followed by Katerine Savard of CSQ, who stayed 0.80 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the finishing wall by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 13.79 seconds for fourth position.
In the meantime, Brenna MacLean of WVOSC transpired on the finishing blockade as fifth best finisher of the discipline as she stayed almost half a body length ahead of her preceding finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 14.42 seconds
for fifth position.
The sixth spot of the discipline was secured by Erin Miller of UOFA, who stayed significantly slower from her former swimmer and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 15.90 seconds. Devon Bibault of EKSC snared seventh best finishing spot of the race as she completed
her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 15.99 seconds.
She was trailed by Terri Lynn Benison of HTAC, who acquired eighth position of the discipline by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 16.01 seconds.
Lacroix was happy with her fastest qualification effort in the playoff and articulated that she will try to do the same in final round.
