Question:

Augmentin vs. Clindamycin for dental infection?

After 4 months with a jaw infection (from root canal) that would not go away and made me really sick, a doctor put me on clindamycin.

While other antibiotics (amoxicillin, cefdinir) had failed, after 15-17 days on clindamycin I started feeling MUCH better ; infection was 85% gone.

The doctor took me off it to prep for blood tests, and during that time the infection came back extremely quick, and worse. I went back on clindamycin. 14 days later, although I didn't feel better as quickly as the 1st time on it, I am feeling WAY better again, the infection is down again, but still, not completely gone. A new doctor wants to switch me to Augmentin.

What is the difference between clindamycin and augmentin? After having been on so many antibiotics, I'm almost scared to switch from what seems to be working (although slowly).

I also wondered why Augmentin as opposed to IV antibiotics? I've literally had this for 4 months and previously was bedridden by it.

Thanks!
