Augustin Gensse down Jonathan Dasnieres De Veig in the quarter-finals – Open Prevadies 2012 CH
Sixth seed, Augustin Gensse of France, did not face much difficulty in beating world number 231, Jonathan Dasnieres De Veig, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter-final at the Open Prevadies in Saint Brieuc France on Friday.
The Frenchman needed an hour and 36 minutes to overpower his countryman and advance to the last four of the singles draw.
Gensse and Dasnieres De Veig held their serve in the first five games of the opening set, taking the score to 3-2 in favour of the former. Gensse claimed a breakthrough in the sixth game and held his serve in the next to build
a 5-2 lead. He capitalised on that to win 6-3.
The 28-year-old had a below average first serve percentage at 45 but an extraordinary conversion rate, claiming 11 of the 13 points on them. He was brilliant in all departments of the game, as he captured seven of the 16 first
and four of the eight second return points. The Frenchman saved the only break point he faced and converted the one he received in the opener.
In a similar fashion to the first set, both players started steadily in the second, as they held their serve in the first six games to square off the score at 3-3. Gensse snatched a break in the seventh game and that was enough
for him, as he served it out at 5-4.
The Frenchman hit one ace and improved his first serve percentage, keeping it at 80. The right-hander converted 19 of the 28 first and four of the seven second deliveries into points. Gensse’s first return performance dropped,
as he won just 10 of the 29 points on them but he did well on the second ones, claiming eight of the 13 of them. The Frenchman put away all the three break threats he came across and utilised one of the seven of his own chances.
Gensse is slated to play world number 213, Peter Gojowczyk of Germany, in the semi-final. The German toppled 234th ranked, Maxime Teixeira of France, in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to reach the last four.
