Augustin Gensse knocks-out Roberto Bautista-Agut in second round – Orleans Challenger 2011
French, Augustin Gensse, squared-off against the Spanish, Roberto Bautista-Agut, in the second round of the tournament, played in France, on Wednesday October 19th. It was the fifth meeting between the two competitors
and French lead the head-to-head tall with 3-1 before the start of this match. The match that lasted for an hour and seven minutes helped the French to improve his head-to-head tally with a final score of 6-2 and 6-1.
Both players had lost four of their last nine games and were severely in need of a victory to improve their recent stats. The difference of 20 ranks between the two proved much more then what it originally seemed and French, ranked
159, bamboozled his opponent in all departments and thumped him on all grounds. Sizeable crowd had gathered to witness this encounter and support their local boy to place a berth in the third round draws.
French smashed four aces in the first match and registered an impressive 71% first and second serve success rate. He earned six opportunities to break his opponent’s serve and was successful at two occasions which were good enough
to rock the Spanish. He stunned the crowd with his tremendous control on serves and command over the game.
Gensse won 35 points from the total of 58 played and pocketed the first set with utmost ease and pleasure. There is nothing worth mentioning about the performance of his opponent except his one chance to break which he lost to
the guilt of Gensse.
The second set was even more terrifying for the Spanish who was totally out of form and had lost every hope to turn the match around in his favour. A half-hearted effort could only win him a single game and he didn’t deserve more
than that considering his dismal and uncharacteristic play on the court.
Local boy registered impressive first (69%) and second (71%) serve rates to dismantle his opponent and put further pressure on him. He won three out of five break points which blew any chances of her opponent to make any sort of
mark at the pitch.
Experience 28-year-old French won 27 points in the second set and stole the set with a mega difference of 11 points. An overall 61% total points winning rate clearly depicts the level of domination at the pitch from the French.
Crowd applauded the 28-year-old for putting up a brilliant all round show but were disappointed at the half-hearted effort from his opponent who didn’t tried to close th gap and make the match much more interesting.
Augustin Gensse is now set to play Ricardas Berankis in the third round of the tournament. It is expected to be a close contest provided the epic form of both players.
