Augustin Gensse pulls off a winner to sit in main draw; beats Laurynas Grigelis - US Open 2011
Moving on with the 3rd round of the men’s qualifier of the U.S Open 2011, Laurynas Grigelis went on against the French world No.149, Augustin Gensse at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Friday, 26th August.
Running over the Lithuanian, Gensse pulled off a 100 minutes match to win 7-6(5), 7-5 and into the main draws of the U.S Open.
Flushing through the stampede off 128 qualifiers and into the draw of 64, Gensse, 28-year-old, has been in a marvellous form regarding his last 10 matches.
Winning 8 out of them, the Frenchman has proven to be an extremely perfect diversified player. Covering up wins on the hard court after a long tour on clay, the 28-year-old has certainly proved brilliant.
Playing on the other side, Laurynas Grigelis, the young 20-year-old Lithuanian, played his previous fixture equally well as his final qualifier round challenger. Adding to his advantage, his previous 10 triumphs had been on hard
court and in USA. Playing each other for the very first time, the Lithuanian was hoping to grab an easy win; however, his ten match practice on the hard court did not work out in his favour.
Starting off with the match, the Lithuanian served for game 1 and took off with his first game win in the first set, 1-0. Following the 20-year-old, Gensse levelled up with his first win and switched the serve, 1-1.
Winning games on respective serves, the two equalled scores at 2-2, 3-3, and 4-4 and then on 5-5 eventually leading on to a tiebreak. The 28-year-old kept his pride winning the tiebreak 7-5 and won the set 7-6(5).
Although the set ended in a tiebreak, the Frenchman ended the set in less than an hour time, 46 minutes, and moved onto the set 2.
Continuing the second set, Gensse opened up with a win followed by the Lithuanian levelling up in game 2, 1-1. The two battled it out with magnificent returns, forehands, backhands and aces equalling up at 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4 and
then again on 5-5.
Breaking the young Lithuanian for the first time in set 2, the 28-year-old blistered a win bagging game 11 and moved onto to finish off the final game and the set 7-5 to make it into the final draws of the U.S Open 2011.
Gensse will now face Janko Tipsarevic in the first round of the U.S Open 2011. Tipsarevic is expected to win; however, there can always be exceptions.
