  1. A Peruvian record (in Spanish) lists the following wives and children:

In 1890 he married Julia Swayne Mariátegui with whom he had 6 kids: Augusto, José, María Virginia, Juan Enrique, Carmen Rosa y María Isabel. He left her and had three other children: Carmen Leguía Larriviere, Ricardo Nicanor Leguía Olivera and Enriqueta Leguía Olivera (a famous poet).

Enriqueta's mother was María Isabel Olivera Mayo, a descendent of the Marquesa del Valle de Campoameno.

He also had a very public affair with a socialite named Linda Thelma, who moved to Peru for a couple of years to be his paramour. She was sent packing from the country after he was arrested.
