The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 president admits that the Qatari investors have changed the dynamics of Ligue 1 but added that his team will vie for Champions League qualification this season
For seven years in a row, Olympique Lyonnais were the kings of French football before relinquishing their crown to FC Girondins de Bordeaux, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lille-OSC-c39800 and then Montpellier. And as the 2012/2013 Ligue 1 campaign begins, Les Gones might
once again be considering regaining their crown.
An excellent start to the campaign has indeed put Lyon in a great place to contest with favourites Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille for the Championelle. And, Les Gones president, Jean-Michel Aulas feels that the club can end the current season
in a podium position.
“Already we are doing better than last season. Last time, we won Coupe de http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 and played the final of Coupe de la Ligue. We finished fourth in the league. Hence our aim is to finish on the podium this season. In the Champions League, we were eliminated
in the second round.”
Aulas then added that the team needs to progress as further as possible in the Europa League this time around. Although the mission does not seem easy, Aulas is confident that the team will do well.
Besides the presence of the likes of Marseille, Montpellier and Lille, Lyon also have to be worried about cash-laden PSG who have finally started springing some good results on a consistent basis.
Aulas admits that the arrival of Qatari investors has changed the dynamics of the league in sporting terms. And, the Lyon supremo did not really seem confident when asked about his team’s chances of usurping the capital giants.
“The arrival of Qatari investors has changed the dynamics of the league in terms of sporting weapons. I do not know if we will be able to beat Paris.”
However, Aulas does not believe that PSG will become a hegemonic power.
“PSG will not win every game 7-0. And if they did, it would not satisfy the public. From experience, I know that it’s difficult to exert supremacy.”
Lyon dominated French football for many years but things were never easy so the same could said for PSG.
