Auroville (near Pondicherry)?

I was in Auroville this weekend - it was a great experience to be there. I heard that one has to apply to get the citizenship of Auroville village - is this true? What I'm supposed to do to have a home there and get citizenship of Auroville?

auroville is very much a part of India. you have to contact the auroville foundation and they will "recommend" you for a residential visa, which presumably will still be ultimately granted by the indian govt. Auroville is NOT a separate sovereign country.
