Aussie Campbell shares second spot in first round of Lalla Aicha Tour School 2013
Nikki Campbell of Australia got off to a fast start at the final stage of Lalla Aicha Tour School 2013 on Thursday, posting a 66 in the first round to grab a share of second position along
with Maria Salinas.
The LET (Ladies European Tour) Q School tournament is being held at the prestigious Amelkis Golf Club, Morocco, featuring a 141-player field that will shrink to just 60 at the end of the fourth
round.
The top 60 players will then go into the fifth round where the field will be further narrowed down to 30. These 30 players will be able to earn the LET membership for the 2013 season.
Campbell was one of the few contenders who made the most of favourable course conditions early Thursday morning. She kicked off the round with confidence as she parred the first three holes.
The Aussie star then swung into action and rattled off two back-to-back birdies on the 4th and 5th hole. Having parred another three holes in a row, she launched her
third birdie on the par-5 9th.
On the back nine, Campbell looked as confident as she was at the start of the round. She carded three birdies and no bogey.
Maria Salinas, who belongs to Peru and is an amateur, battled hard throughout the day and rattled most of the professionals. Salinas received a big applause from the Moroccan spectators after
she launched four straight birdies on the front nine.
On the back nine, the Peruvian amateur shot another three birdies to further cement her position at the second spot on the leaderboard.
Swedish Isabella Ramsay was the star performer in the first round. Ramsay shot an impressive 65 to take the solo lead.
The Swedish star shared her thoughts at the end of the first round, saying she was pretty thrilled after gaining a lead over all the rivals. She said that the next three rounds will be more
crucial, but her caddie support will keep her in contention.
“We played one shot at a time so I did not know my score, but I know it now and I am happy,” said Ramsay who joined professional golf in 2006.
